What a compliant gas line installation looks like
- Approved pipe and fittings, sized for the total appliance load rather than the nearest convenient diameter.
- Cylinders sited outside, restrained, ventilated and clear of drains, openings and ignition sources.
- An isolation valve where the gas enters the building, and a shut-off at each appliance.
- Buried or sleeved sections protected and marked, and nothing concealed that must stay reachable.
- A pressure test held and recorded before the certificate is issued.

Domestic and commercial
A domestic run feeding a hob and a geyser is a different job from a restaurant line feeding a bank of burners; sizing, cylinder bank and ventilation all change with it. Both are quoted from the same table — see gas installation costs.
Adding to an existing line
Adding an appliance is not simply a tee. The existing line has to carry the new load, and the whole installation is re-tested and re-certified with a gas certificate of compliance.
